Eagles-Ravens: Game time, how to watch or stream third preseason game

After scrimmaging, Ravens all-pro calls Carson Wentz an ‘elite level’ quarterback

The Eagles take on the Baltimore Ravens Thursday night in Week 3 of the NFL preseason, but don’t expect to see many starters on the field.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has made it pretty clear he doesn’t want to risk injuring any of his starters heading into the season, including quarterback Carson Wentz (though veteran offensive lineman Jason Peters suggested to reporters he’ll see some playing time tonight).

Wentz did take the field with the first-team unit in two inter-squad scrimmages against the Ravens earlier this week, and his play impressed several defenders, including All-Pro safety Earl Thomas III, who admitted it was tough to get a read on the young quarterback.

“I would tell you, in this league there’s a small pool of guys that you would classify at an elite level,” Thomas told NBC Sports Philadelphia. “And I think he’s definitely in that pool.”

Fans will get a look at 40-year-old quarterback Josh McCown, whom the Eagles signed following injuries to back-ups Nate Sutfeld and Cody Kessler. McCown left a nice gig at ESPN to un-retire and play football again, and it’ll be the first time he takes the field in Philadelphia since coming in at the end of a 2013 blowout while a member of the Chicago Bears.

“I’m old enough to have played at the Vet, and you try to tell the guys what they’re getting into when they come into Philly," McCown told my colleague Ed Barkowitz. "But you don’t quite know until you get here.”

Media coverage

In the latest edition of the Birds’ Eye View podcast, McLane, Bowen, and Domowitch discuss what they saw during the team’s practices with the Ravens and which players they think will make the group of 53 that dresses on Sept. 8.

NBC10′s coverage kicks off at 7:00 p.m. with Eagles Preseason Kickoff, hosted by John Clark. The show will feature new Eagles running back Jordan Howard and the memory of his late father. Eagles Preseason Final will air immediately after the game.

Eagles Pregame Live will air on NBC Sports Philadelphia at 6:30 p.m., featuring Ray Didinger and former Eagles players Seth Joyner and Barrett Brooks. Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell will join the crew for Eagles Postgame Live following the game.

Ravens have a crazy preseason winning streak

What to know about the Eagles

  1. McLane broke down the film, and despite what you think, Jim Schwartz’s soft zone coverage (which he hardly ever calls) has been a success.

  2. Columnist Bob Ford isn’t convinced the Eagles’ approach to the preseason is the right one.

  3. More than seven months after tearing toe ligaments, Nigel Bradham’s Week 1 return is no sure thing, reports Domowitch and Smith.

  4. Defensive end Daeshon Hall, a former third-round castoff, is in position to earn a job with the Eagles.

  5. U.S. women’s soccer team star Carli Lloyd kicked a 55-yard field goal during Eagles’ practice that was good with room to spare.
