‘Game of Thrones’ breaks record with 32 Emmy nominations, followed by ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ and ‘Chernobyl’
The 71st annual Primetime Emmy Awards air Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.
Despite its controversial final episodes, HBO’s unstoppable Game of Thrones earned 32 Emmy nominations Tuesday morning, shattering the record for the most nominations for a show in a single season.
Close behind were Amazon’s critic-favorite comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel with 19; HBO’s surprise hit Chernobyl with 18; and NBC’s Saturday Night Live with 18. FX’s Fosse/Verdon and HBO’s Barry each garnered 17 nominations, while Netflix’s When They See Us scored 16 nods.
Malvern’s Adam McKay was nominated for outstanding director for a drama series for HBO’s Succession. Wayne’s Abbi Jacobson received acting and producing nominations, along with her Broad City cocreator and costar, Ilana Glazer, for their companion web series, Hack Into Broad City. And Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown, whose This Is Us character last season was elected to a (fictional) seat on Philadelphia City Council, was again nominated as outstanding actor in a drama, one of nine nominations for the show, which was created by University of Pennsylvania graduate Dan Fogelman.
