Malvern-bred Nick Kline says he always wanted to own a steakhouse.

His father, Keith, a stockbroker, brought him down to earth. “There are 10,000 steakhouses out there,” he’d reply.

Now 24 and with two years of restaurant management behind him with Quincy’s Original Lobster Rolls' Jersey shore locations, Nick has scaled back his meaty dreams.

He’s seeking his fortune instead with filet mignon -- specifically, sandwiches.

Nick Filet, which opened over the weekend in a former doughnut shop at 111 E. Lancaster Ave. in Paoli, keeps the menu simple.

The 6-ounce version, built on a round, toasted Amoroso roll, is $9.99. It’s $14.99 for a 9-ounce. Kline charcoal-grills the sliced beef, which comes out juicy and cooked to medium.

Free toppings include sauteed mushrooms, sauteed onions, blue cheese crumbles, Worcestershire sauce, A1 sauce, and American cheese. Bacon is $1.29 extra.

You also can get a salad topped with filet, a grilled cheese with filet, and filet mac and cheese.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
