Football recruiting: Woodrow Wilson’s Stanley King to decide between Rutgers and Western Michigan

Woodrow Wilson wide receiver Stanley King has narrowed his college choices to two: He will opt to play with one of his best friends or with his home-state university.

King, a three-star recruit by ESPN.com and a first-team All-South Jersey selection, will sign Wednesday with either Western Michigan or Rutgers, according to Woodrow Wilson coach Preston Brown.

King is scheduled to announce his decision at a signing ceremony in the media center at the school in East Camden.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound King caught 79 passes for 1,413 yards and 15 touchdowns last season, helping Woodrow Wilson to a 9-4 record and the South Jersey Group 3 championship.

The 1,413 yards were the second-highest in a single season in South Jersey history.

King played in the Under Armor All-American Game on Jan. 3 in Orlando.

King originally committed to Louisville last summer. He decommitted after Cardinals coach Bobby Petrino was fired in November.

If King opts to enroll at Western Michigan, he would be reunited with Woodrow Wilson quarterback Nick Kargman, who signed with the Broncs during the first signing period in December.

Kargman set a state record last season with 3,963 passing yards. He also threw 41 touchdown passes.

Over Kargman’s two seasons at Woodrow Wilson, the quarterback and King formed South Jersey’s most prolific pass-catch combination. The pair combined for 2,508 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns.

Moorestown wide receiver Nick Cartwright-Atkins plans to sign with Wagner on Wednesday.

Cartwright-Atkins also had offers from Division-II programs Stonehill and Pace as well as an opportunity to join the Rutgers program as a preferred walk-on.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Cartwright visited Wagner last weekend and committed to the school on Staten Island, N.Y.

“The view just captivates you,” Cartwright-Atkins said of the New York skyline.

Cartwright-Atkins caught 61 passes for 897 yards and nine touchdowns last season. He scored 14 total touchdowns.

Cartwright-Atkins also is the leading scorer for the Moorestown basketball team, which will be the top seed in the South Jersey Group 3 tournament.

“I’m just relieved to have it over with,” Cartwright-Atkins said. “It was a stressful process. Now I can just relax and focus on basketball.”
