Friday’s South Jersey roundup: Wayden Ay nets five goals in Haddonfield’s South Group 2 quarterfinals win

Wayden Ay netted a game-high five points to lift Haddonfield over Sterling, 20-4, in the South Group 2 girls’ lacrosse quarterfinals on Friday. The Bulldogs led 15-2 at halftime, as Ashley Campo tallied a hat trick and five other Haddonfield players scored two goals each. Grace Michielli had all four goals for the Silver Knights.

In other South Group 2 action, Lower Cape May beat Barnegat, 12-8. Maddie Schiffbauer had a game-high four goals. Sabrina Faulkner netted a hat trick in the win, as the fourth-seeded Tigers will play top-seeded Haddonfield on Tuesday.

Jenna Casole’s four goals and five assists led Eastern to a 16-9 win over Washington Township in the South Group 4 quarterfinals. Tori Accardo and Kara Heck both had four goals as well, as the Vikings took a 12-3 lead at halftime. The team plays Cherokee in the semfinals on Tuesday.

Also in South Group 4, Lenape beat Kingsway, 18-2, behind Gianna Monaco’s six goals. The Indians didn’t allow a goal in the second half, outscoring the Dragons, 7-0. Lauren Conroy and Lauren Dickson had three goals apiece for Lenape. The Indians play Shawnee next.

In other South Group 4 action, Cherokee edged Southern Regional, 11-8. Nicole Dilullo had five goals for the Chiefs, as teammate Alex Kilinski followed with four.

Staying in South Group 4, Shawnee was able to fend off Clearview in the second half for a 9-8 win.

Elaina Corson, Reese DeMarco, and Mekelsey Montgomery had three goals apiece to lead Rancocas Valley to a 20-5 win over Freehold Township in the Central Group 4 quarterfinals. Sydney Sventy had a game-high four goals in the win. The second-seeded Red Devils host third-seeded Toms River North in the semifinals on Tuesday.

Delran fell to Red Bank Catholic, 16-6, in the Central Group 2 quarterfinals.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Ocean City held West-Windsor-Plainsboro North scoreless in the first half of its 13-3 South Group 3 quarterfinals win. Noam Levy-Smith led the Red Raiders with six goals, as the team jumped out to a 7-0 halftime lead. Ocean City, the bracket’s second seed, plays the Shawnee in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Staying in South Group 3, top-seeded Moorestown downed Northern Burlington, 21-2. The Quakers scored six goals in each of the first three quarters. Nick Cataline led all scorers with four goals, while Conor McDonough and Patrick Coleman both had three. Moorestown plays Clearview next round.

Also in South Group 3, Tyson Burbank and Sean McAllister scored four goals apiece to lead Clearview to a 14-7 win over Mainland. The fourth-seeded Pioneers have outscored opponents 31-8 through the first two rounds of play.

In the last South Group 3 quarterfinal, Shawnee blanked West Windsor-Plainsboro South, 18-0. Chris Lyons had a game-high six goals and tallied two assists. Gavyn Wilson and Matt Wesley each had three goals. Kyle Korchak scored two goals and had three assists.

Baseball

Brian Anderson picked up his 300th career victory as Shawnee head coach in the team’s 3-2 win over Timber Creek. Anderson has led the Renegades to 11 Olympic Conference titles, two sectional titles, and one state championship.

Kingsway captured its first Tri-County Royal Division title since 2002 after beating Williamstown, 3-0. John McCunney pitched 6 1/3 innings of shutout ball for the Dragons, striking out six.

Scott Craig’s four RBIs led Vineland to a 16-1 win over Bridgeton in five innings. Joscar Colon and Jemere Cheeseman both had two doubles each, while Hector Perez had a double, two runs, and two RBIs for the Fighting Clan.

Millville used a seven-run second inning to beat Egg Harbor Township, 11-7. Garrett Musey had three RBIs and three runs, while Connor Nurnburg went 3-for-5 with a double for the Thunderbolts. Cory Kessler, Robbie Petracci, and Anthony Feinstein each had a home run for the Eagles.

Tyler White went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs for Camden Catholic, which beat Winslow Township 9-1. The Irish jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first inning and gave up their lone run in the seventh inning.

Logan Petty went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the first inning to pace Mainland to an 11-7 win over Absegami. The Braves didn’t strike out once in the game, walking 11 times.

Anthony Rullo had two doubles, three runs, and an RBI in Pennsauken’s 8-0 win over Pemberton. The Indians scored at least one run in each of the first five innings.

Softball

Karly Messina pitched a complete game, striking out three and allowing just three hits in Cherokee’s 3-2 win over Washington Township. Anna Messina was 3-for-3 with a run, while Madison Donnelly had two hits and an RBI. Alexa McNee drove in two runs.
