Saturday’s Southeastern Pa. roundup: Methacton boys’ tennis wins second consecutive Pioneer Athletic Conference doubles championship

Methacton won its second consecutive Pioneer Athletic Conference doubles championship after upsetting top-seeded Spring-Ford at Perkiomen Valley on Saturday. Adam Zhang and Harsha Santhanam, the tournament’s second-seed, defeated Malchu Pascual and Adit Jain in three sets, 6-2, 5-7, and 6-4. They advanced to the final after beating Upper Dublin’s Sam Tepe and Chetan Mitra. Pascual and Jain topped fifth-seeded Aaron Zhang and Krishan Pillutla in the semifinals.

The four met earlier in April at Spring-Ford, where Methacton handed the Rams their first loss of the season. Santhanam has now won back-to-back doubles championships after winning it last year with Krishna Suraesh.

In Central League action, Lower Merion beat Radnor in the Central League doubles championship at Upper Darby. Vikas Miller and Justin Minerva defeated Max Safanov and Garrett Spillerman in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Lower Merion downed Conestoga in the semifinals.

Baseball

George Karusky’s one-out, bases-loaded single to center in the bottom of the seventh gave Archbishop Ryan a 7-6 walk-off win over Springside Chestnut Hill.

Blake Stephanos picked up his first career win as Radnor beat Interboro, 4-2. Stephanos pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings, while Sunny Kwon broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out, two-run single.

Owen Taylor and Tony Holden each had two-run singles in a five-run fifth inning for Perkiomen School to beat Shipley, 11-3. Zach Smith’s single in the third drove in two runs for the Panthers.

Ridley’s three-run first inning was the difference maker in a 5-3 win over Bonner-Prendergast. Joe Cipolloni notched the win. Nate Smith had a double and Cam Farro tallied a pair of RBIs for the Green Raiders.

Conestoga took advantage of 12 Haverford School walks, scoring 10 runs in the fourth inning to win, 13-6.

Timmy Snipes got the win on the mound as Penn Charter beat Springfield (Montco), 5-2.

Methacton’s two runs in the top of the seventh was the difference in its 4-2 win over Cheltenham.

La Salle was shutout by St. Augustine, 5-0. Anthony Sofran pitched a complete game for the Hermits, allowing just three hits and striking out three.

Devon Prep beat Episcopal Academy, 12-3, as several players had multiple hits.

Holy Ghost Prep blanked Pennsbury, 3-0.

Archbishop Carroll downed Malvern Prep, 7-2.

Malvern Prep topped Cardinal O’Hara, 4-2.

Softball

Emily Gavin struck out 10 and Emily Gavin went 3-for-4 in Interboro’s 4-2 win over Cardinal O’Hara. Billie Kerwood picked up the win on the mound for the Buccaneers and knocked in two runs at the plate.

Notre Dame beat Shipley, 15-5.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Randall Brown’s four goals led Shipley to a 12-10 win over Wissahickon. Luke Grayum tallied a hat trick for the Gators, while Nate Yi had 16 saves in goal.

Haverford High beat Perkiomen Valley, 8-4. Connor Roop had two assists for the Vikings and Matt Brock won 15 of 16 face-offs.

Haverford School topped Germantown Academy, 16-7.

Penn Charter’s five goals in the second quarter led to an 11-5 win over Southern Lehigh.

Upper Moreland shutout Truman, 15-0.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Jackie Rama scored five goals and won the final draw control to lead Upper Dublin to a 16-15 win over Methacton. Rama had the game winner for the Cardinals, giving them a 16-14 lead with just over three minutes remaining in the game.

Regan Nealon and Kathryn Toohey combined for 11 goals to power Garnet Valley past Downingtown East, 21-11. Kara nealon and Caroline Shaefer had three goals apiece for the Jaguars.

Perkiomen Valley edged Souderton, 14-12, after both teams were tied at six at halftime. Riley McGowan netted six goals for the Indians.

Haverford High outlasted Avon Grove, 16-15.

Springside Chestnut Hill downed Hill School, 19-9.
