Tuesday’s Southeastern Pa. Roundup: Phoenixville’s Lauren Mull hits for cycle

Lauren Mull hit for the cycle in Phoenixville’s 12-2 win over Pottstown in a Pioneer Athletic Conference Frontier Division softball matchup on Tuesday. Mull went 4-for-4 with a triple in the first inning, double in the second, single in the fourth and homer in the fifth. Nicole Kugler and Kendall Brown also had multi-hit games for the Phantoms.

Cori Jones finished a single shy of the cycle in Conwell-Egan’s 8-6 win over Archbishop Wood in the Catholic League. Jones went 3-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Alyssa Fagans and Ang Bresnen also hit doubles for the Eagles.

Grace Jackson struck out eight and allowed just one hit in Notre Dame’s 10-0 win over Germantown Academy in five innings. Sam McGarvey and Kate Bradley each had two RBIs in the Irish’s Inter-Ac League win.

Maddie Solow hit two homers in Penn Charter’s 11-8 win over Springside Chestnut Hill. Abby Manion hit a double for the Quakers. Kate Reagan had a double and a triple for Springside Chestnut Hill.

Franklin Towne Charter scored five runs in the fourth inning as it beat GAMP, 9-3, in Public League Independence Division action. Linda Jackson and Ashley Donnelly hit back-to-back singles in the fourth inning before Hailey Omlechuk singled two batters later. Jaylin Sullick went 4-for-4 with a double for the Coyotes.

Science Leadership beat Olney, 25-15, in the Public League’s Liberty Division. Emma April hit a home run and was the winning pitcher in her first varsity game. Lily Prendergast hit two doubles, while Ashley De La Cruz hit a double and a triple. Rebecca Cassel-Siskind had a double and a homer for the Rockets.

Ja-Lynn Colon and Katherine Vargas each hit homers to help Esperanza beat Franklin Learning Center, 18-14. Colon was also the winning pitcher.

Aleiyah Aguero went 2-for-3 with three RBIs as Washington beat Tacony Academy Charter, 19-9. Keidy Valdez went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Winning pitcher Rose Luciano went 3-for-3 and had two RBIs.

Perkiomen Valley scored five runs in the first inning of its 8-5 win over Emmaus. Jordan Sell went 4-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs for the Vikings.

Baseball

Winning pitcher Zak Summy threw five scoreless innings for the Haverford School in its 2-1 win over Malvern Prep in Inter-Ac League baseball action on Tuesday. Luke Kania’s RBI in the fourth inning gave the Fords a 2-0 lead. Calvin Costner allowed one run in the final two innings and earned the save.

Plumstead Christian scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning to beat Jenkintown, 3-2, in Bicentennial League Constitution Division action. Josh Pritchard had a double, and Ben Weaver had an RBI for the Panthers. Charlie Levy’s game-tying RBI in the bottom of the sixth forced extra innings.

MaST Charter scored eight runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat Calvary Christian, 9-3, in Bicentennial League Independence Division play. Anthony Castillo went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Panthers.

Tyson Maddox drove in both of Germantown Friends’ runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th inning, during the Tigers’ 2-1 win over Abington Friends. Starting pitcher Kai Cummings struck out 11 in six innings, scored both runs and reached base five times.

In other Friends Schools League action, Bennett Lichstein went 3-for-3 and scored a run in the George School’s 6-3 win over the Academy of the New Church. Lichstein hit two doubles and had two RBIs. Justus Agosto earned the save in relief and also had two RBIs.

Springfield Montco beat Wissahickon, 4-3, on a ninth-inning walk off. Morgan D’Amico hit two doubles for the Spartans in their Suburban One League American Division victory.

Bishop McDevitt scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning to beat Phil-Mont Christian, 4-3. AJ Greenberg went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Winning pitcher Eric Wilson struck out seven in his complete game and went 2-for-3.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Katelin Williams scored a game-high five goals as Harriton beat Springfield Delco, 16-11, in the Central League. Lucy and Grace Dwyer each had hat tricks.

Radnor scored 13 first-half goals in its 17-4 win over Lower Merion. Ellie Mueller led the Raiders with four goals. Cate Cox scored two goals and had five assists.

Garnet Valley defeated Strath Haven, 20-7, behind four goals and two assists from Madi McKee. Kara Nealon and Kathryn Toohey both had hat tricks.

Brynne Menen scored eight goals as Friends’ Central beat George School, 17-11, in the Friends Schools League. Thea Volpp had a hat trick for the Phoenix. Alexandra Long led the George School with five goals.

Sarah Hartigan scored six goals and had two assists as St. Hubert beat Conwell-Egan, 14-8, in the Catholic League. Alexa May and Payton Pugh each scored three goals. Sophia Trainor made 16 saves for the Bambies.

Boys’ Golf

Friends’ Central lost to Moorestown Friends, 178-181, in the Friends Schools League. Alec Ryden shot even par for the Foxes. John Broadbeer had the lowest score for the Phoenix with a 39.

Boys’ Tennis

Central defeated Lincoln, 5-0, in the Public League Class AAA Semifinal, the last match for longtime Lincoln coach Michael Turchi.

Radnor defeated Upper Darby, 7-0, in a Central League matchup. The league-champion Raiders ended the season 18-0 overall and 11-0 in the Central League. Max Safanov became the first player to defeat Upper Darby’s Brandon Caban this season, dropping his record to 10-1 in Central League play. Safanov won a third-set tiebreaker, 10-8, to take the match. Both players entered the match unbeaten.

The Haverford School beat Germantown Academy, 7-0, in the Inter-Ac League. Nikhil Chakraborty beat Alex Yan, 6-1, 7-5, in the top singles match. Thomas Ward and Aly Ba defeated Grant Griswold and Jason Chee, 6-2, 6-0, in the top doubles match.

Germantown Friends beat Moorestown Friends, 4-1, in the Friends Schools League. Noah Eisenstein and Gray Palmer earned wins in singles. Jacob Morse and Michael Harrity beat Anthony Carrano and Josh Strauss, 6-0, 6-0.

Girls’ Track and Field

The Episcopal Academy beat Baldwin and Agnes Irwin during an Inter-Ac League meet. Episcopal beat Agnes Irwin, 93-31, and beat Baldwin, 98-17. Kathleen Anderson won the 100-meter dash in 13.13 seconds. Rae Keffer-Scharpf won the high jump by clearing four feet, 10 inches.

Boys’ Track and Field

Marple Newtown hosted a meet against Radnor and Haverford High in the Central League. The Fords beat Radnor, 109-40. The host Tigers lost to both its opponents. Haverford beat Marple Newtown, 127-23, and Radnor beat Marple Newtown, 94-56.

Haverford’s Chasen Wint won the shot put with a 46-foot, 9 1/4-inch throw. He also won the discus with a 145-foot, 10 1/2-inch throw. Cole Gillespie won the triple jump and the pole vault for the Fords. He had a 10-foot pole vault mark.
