Friday’s high school sports roundup: Nick Madonna’s six rushing TDs powers West Chester Rustin past Great Valley

Last week, Nick Madonna returned a kick 86-yards for a touchdown in West Chester Rustin’s opening game victory against Sun Valley. But on Friday, the senior running back topped that performance by a large margin.

Madonna, a 2020 Navy lacrosse recruit, rushed for six touchdowns, including five in the first half as the West Chester Rustin football team defeated Great Valley, 47-7. Great Valley’s lone score came on Ryan Banavitch’s 48-yard rushing touchdown.

Gabe Franczyk went 12-for-14 for 147 passing yards, five touchdowns and one interception to lead Springfield (Montco) past Edison, 54-0. Cameron Dennis recorded nine catches for three touchdowns and 113-yards. Brennan Fluehr had two interceptions, including one that he returned for a score.

Central Bucks East downed Hatboro-Horsham, 45-28, thanks to Anthony Giordano’s six touchdowns — three passing and three rushing.

Johnson John had three touchdowns, including a 38 fumble return in the second quarter, to help Jenkintown top Shenandoah Valley, 47-8. Clinton Jackmon had one rushing touchdown and two passing. Aviv Jackson had an 80-yard rushing touchdown, and Iman Jackson added two scores on the ground.

Ronald Jones had a 50-yard rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown as Conwell-Egan defeated Roman Catholic, 23-21. Andrew Garwo threw two touchdown passes, including a 15-yard strike to Sincere Thomas. The Cahillites made it a one possession game late in the fourth quarter and attempted an onside kick, but Conwell-Egan recovered it, which helped the Eagles seal the win.

Will Howard had three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown to lead Downingtown West past Central Bucks South, 34-13. Tyriq Lewis recorded a rushing touchdown, and Alex Rosano hauled in two receiving touchdowns.

Barry Brown had more than 300-yards on offense and five total touchdowns in Academy Park’s 56-21 win over Pottsgrove.

Northeast caused eight turnovers to score three defensive touchdowns and beat the Haverford School, 36-0.

Germantown Academy topped Simon Gratz, 35-18, behind Jerry Griffen-Batchler’s three rushing touchdowns. Jordan Longino threw a 18-yard touchdown pass to Tayshaun M. Mack.

Brody McAndrew tossed two touchdown passes as Neshaminy downed Pennridge, 21-7. Chris James took a hand-off to the outside for a 70-yard rushing touchdown. Gavin O’Connor had an interception.

Christopher Pierce did it on offense and defense in Plymouth Whitemarsh’s 35-7 win over Methacton. He scored three rushing touchdowns and returned a fumble 35-yards for six. Brian Dresnin added a five yard rushing touchdown.

Joe Paoletti tossed two touchdowns, including a 70-yard pass to Neo Vosschulte late in the second quarter, to help Marple Newton top Lower Merion, 41-7. Charlie Box scored two rushing touchdowns. His 59-yard scamper in the third quarter started the scoring for the Tigers in the second-half. Marple Newton’s kicker, Jimmy O’Brien, threw a touchdown pass to Jonny Small on a bad snap, and then hit the extra point.

Ridley defeated Springfield (Delco), 22-6, thanks to Dylan Staley’s two rushing touchdowns. Jack Willis took a tipped pass for an interception return in the fourth quarter to give the Raiders a 16-6 lead. Kevin Rechner threw a touchdown pass to Alex Scarrino for the Cougars.

Nick Guthre’s two rushing touchdowns led Souderton past Quakertown, 24-10. The Indians are 2-0 for the first time since 2016. Andrew Vince added a rushing touchdown and William Leyland drilled a 21-yard field goal. Vince and Evan Kutzler each had interceptions.

Cahsid Raymond scored three rushing touchdowns as Ben Franklin edged School of the Future, 38-28. He also tossed a 25-yard passing touchdown to Richard Boykin. Ronnie Lane returned a kick for 98-yards, and Tariq Thornton- Trice added a 25-yard rushing touchdown.

Lynn Anthony’s rushing touchdown in overtime led Bristol to a 30-24 victory over KIPP DuBous.

South Jersey Football

Patrick Smith took the opening kickoff 97-yards for a touchdown for Holy Spirit, but that lead didn’t last long. In fact, that was the largest and only lead the Spartans would hold in the contest as they lost to Mount St. Joseph (Md.), 56-27. Smith also scored a rushing touchdown at the end of the third quarter. Trevor Coleman had a 10-yard rushing touchdown, and Michael Weaver returned a 50-yard interception to the house for Holy Spirit.

Ernest Howard’s 9-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter helped Pleasantiville edge Salem, 27-18. Freshman quarterback Marlon Leslie had a passing and rushing touchdown. Zahir Washington’s 21-yard touchdown catch gave the Greyhounds a 19-18 lead late in the third quarter.

St. Augustine fell to State College, 20-17. The Hermits led State College midway through the fourth quarter, but a fumble lost by St. Augustine lost them the game. After the fumble, Isaiah Edwards gave State College a three point lead off a rushing touchdown. Isaiah Raikes scored a rushing touchdown for the Hermits and Luke Snyder hit a 38-yard field goal.

Malachi Melton, a Purdue recruit, returned a punt 56-yards for a touchdown and recovered a fumble in Cedar Creek’s 24-20 victory over Willingboro. Chris Long hauled in two touchdown passes.

Pa. Boys’ Soccer

Gil Newton scored four goals to lead Roman Catholic past Phila. Academy Charter, 9-0. Matt Harrell and Nicky LoBiondo added two goals apiece.

Peter Boerth, Jake Hooper, Tim Wright and Emmett Young each scored in Strath Haven’s 4-2 victory over West Chester Rustin.

Brandon Cairy recorded a hat trick to help Penncrest shut out Interboro, 6-0. Ethan Emory, Connor Kraycik and Nate Rodgers added one goal apiece.

Father Judge defeated Upper Dublin, 1-0, thanks to Ryan Colfer’s goal.

Miles Kurtz tallied one goal and one assist as Abington Friends beat Phil-Mont Christian, 3-1. Maz Emery and Wadner Simon each scored goals.
