West Catholic announced the hiring of Brian Wood as its new football coach earlier this week. He replaced Brian Fluck three months after Fluck came under fire amid questions about missing money.

Wood, a 1996 West Catholic graduate, spent the last four seasons as the defensive coordinator at Oxford High School. He was an all-Catholic League tight end his senior year with the Burrs before going on to star at Albright College, where he was a two-time all-conference selection.

“We are excited to begin this new era of West Catholic Prep football," West Catholic principal Kelly Lanza said in a statement. “Mr. Wood brings with him a reputation of excellence as a coach and as a role model for young men as they develop as student athletes.”

Fluck’s contract at West Catholic was not renewed in early March, a month after he stepped down from the Philadelphia City All-Star Football Game executive committee due to accusations of stealing money.

In a February statement, members of the game’s executive committee, through an attorney, alleged that Fluck “misappropriated and embezzled funds that he was entrusted to manage while in his capacity as president.”

Fluck has not commented on the allegations, and no charges have been announced. His attorney said in March that Fluck was “more than willing” to participate in a full-fledged audit “to ensure that he, along with the Board, complied with the bylaws.”

This year’s all-star game is set for May 18th at Northeast at 5 p.m.
