Kendrick Lamar surprise releases eight song 'untitled unmastered'

New music from the Compton rapper, out of the blue.

Is it an album? Is it an EP?

It's unclear whether we should think of untitled unmastered, the 8 song collection that Compton, Calif. rapper Kendrick Lamar suprise released last night, as the proper follow-up to last year's masterful Grammy winning To Pimp A Butterfly, or not.

But in any case it is upon us: A collection of songs without names, many of which had been previewed live before in one-off performances in venues like the The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Colbert Report, and the Grammy awards ceremony earlier this month, that have been bestowed upon us by the most acclaimed figure in hip-hop without all the chaotic foofaraw that came along with Kanye West's The Life of Pablo.

There's also some Philly flavor on the album. Ritz Reynolds produced the first track along with drums by Joe Baldacci and keys by Dominic Angelella of DRGN King.

untitled unmastered is available on iTunes and all the streaming services.
