Knoebels Amusement Resort, the family-owned park in Northumberland County, is looking to the past for its newest ride.

The park announced on Saturday the latest of its more than 60 rides will be named "Over the Top" and ready for action when the park opens this spring.

The ride is based on the Flying Cages, or Cages, that operated at the park between 1964 and and 1986 and can still be seen in the park's History Museum. Riders shifted their weight to see if they could make the cage go "over the top."

“One of the reasons it caught our attention is that it gives riders a sensation similar to that of the old Flying Cages,” Dick Knoebel said in a statement. “In addition, we received the stamp of approval from younger family members who never experienced the Cages and still spoke highly of the thrill."
Prospective riders must be at least four feet tall. Over the Top, which holds 12 riders at a time, will reach more than twenty-one feet in height when in operation. It will be the only one of its kind in the state, according to the park.
For visitors familiar with the park, the new ride will be located in the area of Wipeout, Fandango, Cub Cars rides and the Money Madness game.
