George Pan of the popular Foo Truck has gone the brick-and-mortar route, following - this year alone - in the tire tracks of Marti Lieberman (Mac Mart, now in Rittenhouse) and Josh Kim (Spot Burgers, now in Brewerytown).
Foo Kitchen took over for a diner and soul-food cafe at 1301 Vine St. in Callowhill, just across from Chinatown.
Pan's menu builds on the creatively fused Asian American favorites from the truck, including his signature Foowiches, which are grilled, overstuffed burritos, and red velvet cakeballs, which are chocolate-covered balls of red velvet cake.
"Eclectic" does not begin to describe Foo Kitchen's food - chicken-and-corn dumplings, tofu fritters, salads, vegetable sautees, noodle dishes, and steak over rice - and it's mighty flavorful.
Among the desserts, Pan drizzles honey over house-made yogurt, which sits atop chopped seasonal fruit.
Pan says his bright blue truck is mostly idled now, as there is only one of him.
