Dinner tonight to benefit Bridget Foy's workers

About 30 South Street restaurants are gathering Wednesday, Nov. 15 under the Headhouse Square Shambles (Second Street below Pine) to benefit the displaced employees of Bridget Foy's, Saved Me animal rescue, and the American Red Cross/Red Paws.

A fire last month destroyed Bridget Foy's, the longtime restaurant at Second and South Streets.

The Foy family plans to rebuild and perhaps save the facade. Meanwhile, "everything has been so overwhelming," said Bridget Foy, who runs the restaurant that her parents, John and Bernadette, opened in the mid-1970s and renamed in her honor after her 1982 birth. "It's been like a death in the family."

At the series of recent fundraisers, "I've felt like I'm at my own funeral." She said the funds raised are helping the 36 employees who were thrust out of work; many have found new jobs, but there's still a lag between paychecks.

The South Street Headhouse District, in partnership with Queen Village Neighborhood Association and area businesses, is organizing the Nov. 15 benefit (6 to 9 p.m.) with chefs, bartenders, restaurants, and live music by Mikey Junior Band.
