Philly immigrants 41 pct more likely to start, own a business

Philadelphia immigrants are 41 percent more likely to own a business than their U.S.-born counterparts, according to the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia.

The Chamber, on Monday, will bring together established immigrant business owners from across the city to discuss lessons learned and how to create more opportunity for immigrant entrepreneurship, kicking off the City of Philadelphia's Immigrant Business Week.

The event, "Roadmap For Growth: The Impact of Immigrant Entrepreneurship," takes place from 5 p.m.-7 p.m., at the Fleisher Art Memorial, 719 Catharine Street.

Panelists will include Joanna Otero-Cruz, deputy managing director for Community Services, City of Philadelphia; Pedro Ramos, president and CEO, The Philadelphia Foundation; Jude Arijaje, president of Minuteman Press; Mariella Giovanucci, president of Fante's; Dr. Beatriz Mirabal Garces, owner of the Garces Dental Group; Yasmine Mustafa, CEO of ROAR for Good and Dr. Stephen  Tang, president of the University City Science Center.
