AmeriHealth Caritas reports Medicaid win in Delaware

AmeriHealth Caritas, of Philadelphia, said Friday that the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services picked it to be one of two companies to manage Medicaid benefits in the state starting Jan. 1.
Highmark Health Options Blue Cross Blue Shield will continue operating in the state, as it has since 2015, according to a news release from the department, which also said that Delaware will end its Medicaid-managed care contract with United Healthcare on Dec. 31.
About 200,000 of the current 230,000 Medicaid beneficiaries in Delaware are served by managed-care organizations, Delaware said.
AmeriHealth Caritas is majority owned by Independence Health Group, which is also the parent company of Independence Blue Cross.
