Spain-based animal-vaccine maker HIPRA picks S. Jersey for N. American HQ

Laboratorios HIPRA SA plans its facility on a 25-acre site it aims to buy at Rowan University's South Jersey Technology Park.

Spain-based veterinary pharmaceutical company Laboratorios HIPRA SA plans to build a North American headquarters facility on Rowan University's West Campus in Mantua Township.

The company, which develops vaccines for animals, is in the final stages of negotiating with Rowan to buy a 25-acre section of the school's 180-acre South Jersey Technology Park to build the project, university spokesman Joe Cardona said in an email Friday.

HIPRA plans to spend up to $100 million to develop the 375,000-square-foot facility, which will house office, research and development, manufacturing, warehouse and distribution functions, Cardona said.

The project will front Route 55 at the Route 322 interchange. It is expected to create 200 new high-technology jobs, Rowan said in a release.

HIPRA plans to apply to Mantua Township for approvals soon and to begin construction immediately after they are granted, Rowan said.
