Target plans sixth smaller-format Philly store at Lincoln Square on S. Broad

The Minneapolis-based retailer aims to open the store in Kimco Realty Corp.-owned development in October 2018.

Target Corp. plans to open a 36,000-square-foot store in the Lincoln Square residential and retail project at Broad Street and Washington Avenue in South Philadelphia.

The store will feature a grocery section, with fresh produce and grab-and-go items, as well as clothing, sporting goods, beauty products, a pharmacy operated by CVS Health, and other offerings, the company said in a release Tuesday.

The Minneapolis-based retailer said it is aiming to open the store in the Kimco Realty Corp.-owned development in October 2018.

The store will be the Target's sixth in Philadelphia to deploy its "flexible format" approach involving smaller, urban-oriented alternatives to its big-box stores. Two such stores are currently operating in Center City. A Roxborough store opened last month, and an additional store is under development in Fairmount.

Another Target store was announced last week at the former Destination Maternity headquarters warehouse at Fifth and Spring Garden Streets, where Yards Brewing Co.'s new brewery also will be located.
