On the Market in Fox Chase: A home that's one in 100

The three-bedroom, single-family Fox Chase home, built in 1961, "was a unique mix of old and new, with its original character and modern design," says one of the owners.

When Michael and Michele Ganas were house hunting in the summer of 2013, it took them awhile to find a home that would suit both their tastes.

"We looked at over 100 houses," Michele said. "But as soon as we stepped inside this home, we knew this was the house we had been looking for."

The three-bedroom, single-family Fox Chase home was built in 1961 and featured more than 1,700 square feet of living space.

"There was a unique mix of old and new, with its original character and modern design," Michael said, "which is the perfect combination for both of our styles."

The property boasts homey details outside such as a covered porch with a swing and ornate ones inside such as a carved fireplace in the living room and custom wainscoting on the striking main staircase.

Michele said the living room is among her favorite places in the home.

"The living room is cozy and inviting," she said. "Perfect for reading a book and relaxing."

After buying the home in July 2013, the couple remodeled the first floor to create an open plan. The second story now includes a new staircase and hardwood flooring throughout. Outside, they repaved the patio, expanded the driveway, and built a shed.

They also made renovations for energy purposes.

"We insulated the attic and garage, which also provides savings on utilities," Michael said.

While the couple has enjoyed living in the Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood, they have recently decided it is time to sell. It is listed by Cynthia Ray at Addison Real Estate for $425,000.

Michael said the couple felt immediately at home in Fox Chase.

"Our experience in the neighborhood has been very positive," he said. "From day one, we were welcomed by all our neighbors."
