Philadelphia rent ranks 15th most expensive in U.S.

Apartment rent, it would seem, just keeps going up. According to a new report on the monthly state of renting nationwide, rates are up nearly 5 percent across the country.

Nationally, a one bedroom goes for about $1,233 — an increase of 4.9 percent compared to the previous month, according to Zumper. Two-bedroom units remained flat at $1,392. As usual, San Francisco, New York, San Jose, Washington, D.C., and Boston have the most expensive rentals.

It may be small comfort, but in Philadelphia, a one-bedroom apartment crept up less than 1 percent to $1,410. Two-bedrooms in Philly were flat, too, steady at $1,600.

At least you're not renting in Long Beach, Calif., New Orleans and Nashville, which had  three of the biggest month-over-month rent increases in the country (at 5.1 percent, 5.3 percent and 4.2 percent, respectively).

On the other end of the spectrum, rates in Providence dipped 4.9 percent, and Durham, N.C., saw a 3 percent decrease. Cross-commonwealth rival Pittsburgh also a 4.9 percent drop in rent, month over month.
