When Bonnie Chang and Robert Hsu bought their home in 1998, it was already 168 years old.
"The original part of the home was built in 1830," Hsu said.
About a year after making the purchase, the couple began construction on what is now the main area of the home.
"We found the stone house charming," Chang said. "And there was endless potential to integrate modern accents with the traditional appeal of a Bucks County farmhouse."
The home — now called Holicong Springs — features several additions to the original stone building, including a wing with a large master bedroom suite, a separate carriage house and a standalone combination barn and pool house.
"We also did substantial landscaping," Hsu said.
The couple added fountains and a substantial limestone carving from Angor Wat in a stone wall in front of the home.
Holicong includes three bedrooms with three full bathrooms and a powder room. The ground-level master features a private sitting room along with an en-suite bath.
Outside, the barn includes a full-sized athletic court and a separate kitchen and full bath. There is also an in-ground pool and a private pond on the four-plus acre lot.
"We have a magnificent amount of privacy," Hsu said.
Chang said the couple still enjoys the fountains they added as part of the original construction project in 1999.
"The water features provide a sense of relaxation," she said.
The couple recently decided to list the home for sale, and they expect many of the elements that attracted them to the property to appeal to new buyers.
"The home is in keeping with the classic charm of a Bucks county farmhouse," Hsu said, "while still providing all the modern amenities most of today's homeowners look for in a property"
The couple will soon be moving to another property they also own, they said.
"We are downsizing to a house we currently own in Doylestown and splitting our time in an NYC pied-à-terre," Chang said.
