10 Family Dollar stores to close across Philly area on parent firm's acquisition by rival

The closures will result in 102 workers being laid off as of June 30.

Ten Philadelphia-area Dollar Express LLC stores operating under the Family Dollar brand will close after the Charlotte, N.C.-based company's acquisition by rival discounter Dollar General.

Affected are Family Dollar locations in South and Northeast Philadelphia, Port Richmond, Germantown, Yeadon, Upper Darby, Lansdowne, Levittown, and Morrisville, according to notices on the website of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.

The closures will result in 102 workers being laid off as of June 30, the agency said.

Dollar General Corp. plans to buy all 323 Dollar Express stores in 36 states, the Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based said in a statement.
