A raccoon seen strolling down the steps at PATCO's 8th and Market Streets Station in Center City has been caught and released in the wilds of  South Jersey.

PATCO says the raccoon, who some say should be named Rocky, was caught about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at 8th and Market by maintenance workers and police officers armed with a salami sandwich.

They then took him the end of the line and released him without charges.

David Bell Mislan, a political science professor and a Fulbright scholar recently returned from Japan, caught the critter on his cell phone camera about 9:30 p.m. Monday.

Mislan says the bag on the steps belonged to a passenger who dropped it and the raccoon checked it out before making its way to the end of the platform and apparently into the tunnel.

Alerted to the post Tuesday morning, PATCO announced it was taking action.
