In the 1980s, fleet-fingered picker Ricky Skaggs was a hitmaker, bringing rural mountain music to the top of the charts in a way that wouldn't be possible in this detwanged country radio era. Skaggs' musical curiosity has continued to serve him well on collaborative projects with Bruce Hornsby and Ry Cooder. Expect a gospel flavor to these two Sunday shows at the Sellersville Theater.

Who Is William Onyeabor? That's the title of the 2013 reissue of the farseeing and innovative funk made by the Nigerian mystery man who died last week at 70. Call him a cross between Fela Kuti and New Order or "an African Shuggie Otis" as Detroit DJ Carl Craig did, the compilation of Onyeabor's music on the Luaka Bop label is my favorite reissue of the decade.

This will undoubtedly be both a sad and celebratory evening, after the death this month of regular contributor Richie Ingui, one half of the Philly soul-brother duo Soul Survivors.
