2016: The year of O.J. Simpson?

After Ryan Murphy and FX triumphed with American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, we thought we'd been O.J.'d out. That is, until we got a peep at 30 for 30: O.J. Made in America.

ESPN's 30 for 30 series has produced some stellar documentaries, but nothing has been as ambitious as Ezra Edelman's deep dive into the O.J. mythos.

Edelman's seven-and-a-half-hour documentary, split into five parts, is not just about the murder trial that made Simpson infamous; it's also a look at how Simpson became who he is, from his San Francisco childhood to his USC and NFL football glory days, the Hertz commercials, and, eventually, prison. It's about the culture that formed him and the cultural climate in Los Angeles at the time he was charged with the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman.

American Crime Story featured fantastic performances and even redeemed maligned prosecutor Marcia Clark, but Nicole was an afterthought, simply a murder victim. Edelman, like few others before him, fully portrays her. - Molly Eichel
Where to stream it:
