"Judgy" or not, Luvvie Ajayi comes to the African American Museum

Luvvie Ajayi is judging you.

But it's all with love. The New York Times best-selling author and acclaimed AwesomelyLuvvie.com  blogger will visit the African American Museum of Philadelphia on Monday  to talk about her new book, I'm Judging You: The Do-Better Manual, with Skai Blue Media founder and CEO Rakia Reynolds.

The book is an incisively hilarious critique about our behavior as friends, baes, social-media users, and global citizens. Its opening line starts with, "One day, I was minding everyone's business," setting the tone for her amusing and very honest observations.

But Ajayi, who so often pounds the gavel in the court of judgment (her own and others), finds herself at a loss this morning. If she were to write a chapter now, Ajayi says over the phone during the 2017 presidential inauguration, "I would talk about how the country essentially approved a man who ran a platform on bigotry. He did everything he could to make him lose, but nothing did."

Just that morning, Ajayi had taken to her Facebook page to burn a pair of Ivanka Trump heels she forgot she had. Live.

"It's really proof that we have a long way to go, and now more than ever we need to fight and stand up when it's difficult," she said. "We need to make sure that we're not contributing to the world being even more terrible than it already it is."

The Nigerian-born writer  said she found her voice by being herself and never straying. Because of this constancy to herself, she masterfully takes you from lighthearted topics to heavy subjects, like racism, sexism, homophobia, and religious intolerance — all while maintaining a humorous touch.

Why is she judging everyone? She says she's calling out the human tendency to become a member of Team Bad Decisions because "I wanted people to know they could leave the world better than they found it and be better people every day."

But Ajayi is admittedly unsure about the future and about whether there is a clear path to equity with the new president.

By the sound of it, there may be a part two of I'm Judging You on the way.
