Globetrotters, fishing tournament, and other things to do down the Shore Aug. 18 to 24
See the Beach Boys on the beach.
Harlem Globetrotters
America's most fun basketball team has been Down the Shore the greater part of the week. Bull already made a basket on the beach from a seat in a Morey's helicopter. Temple's TNT is in Mexico, but Harrisburg's Ace and Handles will be there, as will Cheese, the pride of Marlton's Cherokee High. Catching the team's last two games at the renovated Convention Center court is the icing on summer's icebox cake — as sweet as Georgia Brown.
7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Wildwoods Convention Center, 4501 Boardwalk, Wildwood. $14-$80. harlemglobetrotters.com
Boys & Girls Fishing Tournament
Although a friendly — and oftentimes fishless — surf-fishing competition, this North End tradition has been known to heat up. (Thanks to proud parents, naturally.) Ground rules: Pack snacks and drinks. Arrive on time. Give one another ample space. Pray for flounder. And, for goodness sake, clean up your bait.
10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Gardens Parkway and the beach, Ocean City. Free. oceancityvacation.com.
Beach Boys
The band every beach town claims as its own makes its annual visit to Ocean City, N.J., between performances in Ocean Grove (Saturday) and Ocean City, Md. (Wednesday). Hardworking, founding-ish bandmates Mike Love and Bruce Johnston lead their harmonious merry men in "Good Vibrations," "California Girls," and "Kokomo" during two evenings of double-booked concerts.
6 & 8:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Music Pier, Moorlyn Terrace and the Boardwalk, Ocean City. $75. oceancityvacation.com
Movies on the Beach
It's about that time to revisit the old summer-break bucket list: time to catch movies on the beach. Tonight, Sea Isle shows The BFG at 8:15 in Excursion Park (JFK Plaza & Pleasure Avenue, visitsicnj.com). Avalon spoils a few bedtimes at its screening of Jurassic World (8:45 p.m. Tuesday, 30th Street and the beach, visitavalonnj.com). Thursday, Cape May does up the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory at Stockton Beach (games at 8 p.m., movie at 8:30, next to Convention Hall, discovercapemay.com). Free.
Atlantic City Airshow
Off they go, into the wild blue — or, at least, the Jersey blue — to the delight of ear-plugged flying fans. Back this year: The U.S. Air Force demo squadron Thunderbirds, Army Knights parachute team, Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet, plus Geico-sponsored skywriters who race a Geico-sponsored speedboat. Expect crowds.
