Comedy and stand-up shows coming to Philly this fall include Tracy Morgan, Wanda Sykes, Hasan Minhaj

It's tough to find the humor in the 90-degree, 80-percent humidity dog days of a Philadelphia summer, but as days get shorter and the temperatures get lower, it's time to laugh again.

Kick off your autumn with sets from comics like Patton Oswalt and Media's Wanda Sykes, and wrap up the season with performances by such favorites as ex-Nightly Show cast member Mike Yard or Philly boy Big Jay Oakerson. Throughout the season, other in-demand stand-ups, like Red Grant, Maria Bamford, and Bert Kreischer, will make stops in the area.

Jo Koy (Sept. 15, the Borgata). Introduced to mainstream audiences in the early 2000s as a commentator on VH1's I Love the 70s, 80s, and 90s series, Jo Koy is one of the most consistent touring acts going. His most recent special, Jo Koy: Live from Seattle, was released last year via Netflix. (609-317-1000, theborgata.com)

Patton Oswalt (Sept. 15, Parx Casino). This year, Patton Oswalt celebrates 30 years in stand-up. His most recent special, Annihilation, was released last year, and he can be heard on The Goldbergs, Happy!, and Minecraft: Story Mode, and seen on A.P. Bio and Mystery Science Theater 3000. Lavell Crawford (Sept. 20-23, Helium). If you're a Breaking Bad fan, you may remember Lavell Crawford from the time he took a brief nap on a stack of Walter White's cash as enforcer Huell, a role he reprised on Better Call Saul last year. Crawford, however, is a veteran stand-up comedian with a career going back to the 1990s and BET's ComicView, so when it comes to his live gigs, he's a can't-miss. The Lit AF Tour (Sept. 22, Liacouras Center). Stand-up legend Martin Lawrence is coming to Temple's Liacouras Center, and he's bringing a bunch of his funniest friends with him. This time, Lawrence hosts the "Lit AF" tour, featuring appearances from fellow stand-ups Adele Givens, Deon Cole, Deray Davis, and Benji Brown.  (215-204-2400, liacourascenter.com)

Hasan Minhaj (Sept. 23, Merriam Theater). Hasan Minhaj was the last correspondent Jon Stewart hired at The Daily Show before he left the program in 2015. Minhaj took his own leave last month, ending an era. Catch him in Philly ahead of the premiere of Patriot Act on Netflix this fall. (215-893-1999, kimmelcenter.org)

On Cinema Live! (Sept. 26, Fillmore). Allentown native Tim Heidecker joins Australian comic Gregg Turkington for a night of "On Cinema Live!," a parody of film podcasts that launched in 2011. With episodes running mere minutes, Temple grad Heidecker and Turkington give their absurd takes on Hollywood's output today, from Ghostbusters to Jack Reacher.  (215-309-0150, thefillmorephilly.com)

Red Grant (Sept. 27-29, Punch Line Philly). At it since 1996, veteran stand-up Red Grant is known for his work with frequent collaborators Katt Williams, with whom he's been touring for a majority of the year, and Snoop Dogg, who hired him as a writer on Dogg After Dark. Wanda Sykes (Sept. 28, Keswick Theatre). It's not often that we get to see Media's Wanda Sykes on stage locally, so her gig at the Keswick is officially a can't-miss. In May, Sykes left her gig writing for ABC's ill-fated Roseanne reboot, so expect plenty of topical material for her "Oh Well" tour. (215-572-7650, keswicktheatre.com)

Moshe Kasher (Oct. 4-6, Punch Line Philly). The last time Moshe Kasher came through Philly, it was with his wife and fellow comedian, Natasha Leggero, on their "Endless Honeymoon" tour. Now, more than a year later, the honeymoon really is over, and Kasher — who has appeared on such Comedy Central shows as midnight, Drunk History, and Another Period — is playing Philly solo. Kathy Griffin (Oct. 6, Merriam Theater). Kathy Griffin grabbed headlines – and almost ended her career — last year when she posed with a mock severed head that looked suspiciously like President Trump. The comedian has long since apologized for the stunt, so she's back on the road and looking for laughs on her "Laugh Your Head Off" world tour. (215-893-1999, kimmelcenter.org)

Def Comedy Jam vs. Wild 'N Out (Oct. 13, Keswick Theatre). In the 1990s, Def Comedy Jam put many comedians on the map, from Aries Spears and Bernie Mac to Damon Wayans and Dave Chappelle. MTV's Wild 'N Out carries on the tradition today. Both shows are hitting the road together with comedians Tommy Davidson, DC Young Fly, Michael Colyar, and Karlous Miller.  (215-572-7650, keswicktheatre.com)

Tracy Morgan (Oct. 13, Parx Casino). A few years back, we almost lost comedian Tracy Morgan to a six-vehicle traffic crash in New Jersey that killed fellow comic James McNair after a tractor-trailer operated by Walmart hit his car from behind. So whenever the comic comes through the area, his shows are required viewing — no excuses.  (888-588-7279, parxcasino.com)

Jay Leno (Oct. 13, Tropicana). Jay Leno left his spot as host of The Tonight Show in 2014, but he hasn't slowed down much since. Now, the former face of late-night TV can be found on the road. (609-340-4000, tropicana.net)

Maria Bamford (Oct. 14, SteelStacks). Maria Bamford's hit Netflix series, Lady Dynamite, may have been canceled this year after two seasons, but Bamford is as funny as ever. This fall, she hits Bethlehem for a gig that brings her back into the Philly area, where she spends plenty of time thanks to her husband, Scott Marvel Cassidy, a Main Line native and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts grad. Nikki Glaser (Oct. 18-20, Punch Line Philly). Few modern comedians handle raunchy material as deftly as Nikki Glaser, who has made a name for herself with hilariously biting takes on sex, womanhood, and rape culture. (215-606-6555, punchlinephilly.com)

Bill Burr (Oct. 19-20, the Borgata). In 2006 at a gig in Camden, Bill Burr went on an anti-Philadelphia rant so epic he is still remembered for it. He's been back to Philly plenty of times since, but this year, local fans will have to head to Atlantic City to get their share of abuse. (609-317-1000, theborgata.com)

Judy Gold (Oct. 21, SteelStacks). Straight out of Newark, N.J., Judy Gold has been splitting sides across the country since the early 1990s, when she got started in stand-up. Now, after specials on HBO, Comedy Central, and LOGO, as well as mounting hit Off-Broadway shows and podcasts, Gold is still on stage, and she's not going anywhere. (610-297-7100, steelstacks.org)

Tom Arnold (Oct. 26, Helium). Tom Arnold is known as many things — actor, ex-husband of Roseanne Barr, and, now, investigative journalist, thanks to his series The Hunt for the Trump Tapes on Viceland — but he never left stand-up comedy. Mike Yard (Oct. 26, Valley Forge Casino Resort). We've been missing comedian Mike Yard nightly ever since Comedy Central canceled The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore in 2016. Former contributor Yard, however, is still at it, and he'll bring his Comedy Central-honed act to Valley Forge in October. (610-354-8118, vfcasino.com)

Tony Rock (Nov.1-4, Helium). He might be fellow comedian Chris Rock's younger brother, but that doesn't mean you should sleep on Tony Rock's forthcoming Philadelphia set. Known for his hosting work on BET's Apollo Live and All Def Comedy Jam, the younger Rock has a storied comedy career all his own. (215-496-9001, philadelphia.heliumcomedy.com)

Bert Kreischer (Nov. 10, the Borgata). Bert Kreischer made his way to Philadelphia's Trocadero Theatre this year to film Secret Time, his third comedy special, for Netflix. Now, Kreischer, also known as "The Machine," comes back to the Philly area for one night only at Atlantic City's Borgata, and we're betting he won't bring a shirt this time, either. Big Jay Oakerson (Nov.15-17, Helium). If you haven't seen Big Jay Oakerson walking the streets of his native Philadelphia, you may have seen him on Comedy Central's This Is Not Happening, HBO's Crashing, or FX's Louie. He returns home for a run of dates at Helium Comedy Club, where his Philly-tinged brand of raw, honest humor will be on full display. (215-496-9001, philadelphia.heliumcomedy.com)

Tom Segura (Nov. 16-17, Merriam Theater). It's been more than a decade in stand-up for comedian and podcaster Tom Segura. These days known as much for his comedy as his "Your Mom's House" podcast, which he hosts alongside wife Christina Pazsitzky, Segura released his most recent special, Disgraceful, in January. Clint Coley (Nov. 25, Helium). Also known as "The Prince" thanks to veteran comic D.L. Hughley, for whom he has opened since 2012, Clint Coley returns home to Philly. Now based in Los Angeles, Coley got his start at the now-defunct Laff House, much like fellow Philly funnyman Kevin Hart, for whom Coley has also opened on the road. Sinbad (Dec. 1, Keswick Theatre). Thanks to what is known as the "Mandela Effect," a good portion of the internet believes comedian Sinbad once starred as a genie in a movie from the 1990s dubbed Shazaam. That never happened — it was Shaquille O'Neal who played a genie in 1996's Kazaam — but Sinbad's forthcoming gig at the Keswick is definitely on. (215-572-7650, keswicktheatre.com)
