Amalgam Comics owner Ariell Johnson to present at Philly Geek Awards

All types of Geekdom will be honored at the Philadelphia Geek Awards.

It's cooler than ever to be a geek.

The Philly Geek Awards – a ceremony honoring outstanding achievements in Philadelphia's vibrant geek community — was founded by Geekadelphia in 2011 and in 2016 Technical.ly and Generocity joined.   This year the event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 26 at the String Theory School: Vine Street Campus in Center City. It's a black tie, red carpet event.

"I'm presenting this year" said Amalgam Comics and Coffeehouse owner Ariell R. Johnson. "I'm presenting Comic Creator of the Year. It's a new venue and always a good time with Geekadelphia."

"I'm excited to participate," she added. "I'm excited to celebrate the geeky talent this year. The Philadelphia Geek Awards really do celebrate the talent in Philadelphia."

"The best thing is it's not just comics," she added. "It's science and technology and encompasses other aspects of geekdom as well."

Indeed, the categories include: Feature Length Indie Film of the Year; Game of the Year; Impact Organization of The Year; Scientist of the Year; Technologist of the Year and many others.

"It's celebrating a whole bunch of people who make our community better," Johnson said.

Tickets for the awards are $40.   It will take place at String Theory Schools on 1600 Vine Street this Saturday from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
