Dave Davies. One day in 1964, Dave Davies sliced an amplifier with a razor blade and invented guitar distortion as we know it with the indomitable riff on The Kinks "You Really Got Me." I Called Him Morgan. Director Kasper Collin’s gorgeous documentary about the great Philadelphia jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan who was shot to death in 1972, at 33, is also a powerful murder mystery. The question, though, isn’t whodunit, but why.  Showing at the Ritz at the Bourse.

Sam Outlaw / Dori Freeman. Outlaw is a Los Angeles country act who mines the Bakersfield sound developed by Buck Owens and Merle Haggard on 2015’s Ry Cooder-produced Angeleno and the new Tenderheart. Freeman is a terrific songwriter from southwest Virginia whose Teddy Thompson-produced self-titled 2016 album hasn’t gotten nearly the amount of attention it deserves. Tuesday at Boot & Saddle.
