Philadelphia's Kevin Bacon is headed back to the FBI in a new Showtime pilot whose producers include Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

Bacon, who played a former special agent in Fox's The Following (and, more recently, the title character in Amazon's streaming series I Love Dick), will star with Aldis Hodge (Underground) as a "corrupt yet venerated FBI veteran" in the one-hour pilot City on a Hill.

The crime drama, a  fictionalized story of the 1990s gun-violence reduction program that came to be known as the "Boston Miracle,"  will feature Hodge as the district attorney who "forms an unlikely alliance" with Bacon's character, according to Showtime.

Production on the pilot, which Showtime said comes from an idea from Affleck and writer and fellow executive producer Chuck MacLean (Boston Strangler), is expected to begin in Boston later this year. Bacon's a co-executive producer on the project.

"Kevin Bacon radiates intelligence and mystery with every role he plays," said Showtime president David Nevins  in a prepared statement in which he called Bacon "a gifted, mesmerizing actor  who will be the perfect partner and foil to Aldis Hodge, one of Hollywood's rising talents and someone primed to stand at the center of this powerful drama."
