Will Smith, as promised, celebrated  his 50th birthday Tuesday in Grand Canyon style.

He bungee-jumped out of a helicopter over one of the seven natural wonders in the world on Tuesday in a stunt  livestreamed on YouTube. If you missed it, you can see it here:

The livestream, billed as a "YouTube Original special," was hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro, Smith's longtime friend and costar on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (which premiered 28 years ago this month, in case Smith's turning 50 doesn't make you feel old enough).

The stunt grew out of a challenge last spring by YouTubers Yes Theory who grew up watching Fresh Prince. Smith also is hoping to raise awareness and donations for the education campaigns of the international advocacy organization Global Citizen.

YouTube Originals content chief Susanne Daniels seemed psyched in July when she announced, during the Television Critics Association's summer meetings, that the jump was a go.

She promised me then that the streaming platform wasn't out to break a Philly icon.

"We're going to do every safety precaution we possibly can. And I know he will, too. We don't want to hurt Will Smith," she said.
