A federal judge in Philadelphia granted a bail request Wednesday for a former Liberian insurgent and politician accused of lying on a 2006 application for U.S. citizenship.

U.S. District Judge Anita Brody approved pretrial release for Juncontee Thomas Woewiyu, 69, of Collingdale. He must post $100,000 bond, secured by his house in Collingdale and another house owned by one of his children. He must also be confined to his home. Woewiyu is charged with perjury, fraudulently trying to gain citizenship and false statements. - Vernon Clark
