A person was fatally struck by an Amtrak train Wednesday night near SEPTA's Devon station in Chester County, authorities said.

The train, traveling between Philadelphia and Harrisburg, hit the unidentified person shortly after 7 p.m. just west of the station, authorities said. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident forced SEPTA to suspend its Paoli/Thorndale Line, a SEPTA spokesman said. Some passengers were taken off trains and transported by shuttle buses. Service was restored about 8:40 p.m., though delays of up to 30 minutes were expected. - Robert Moran
