Philly's top homicide prosecutor headed to Harrisburg

Jennifer Selber, chief of the Philadelphia District Attorney's homicide unit, has been appointed Executive Deputy Attorney General in charge of the Criminal Division of the state Attorney General's office.

The announcement, one of four for top spots in the office, was made Thursday byAttorney General-Elect Josh Shapiro.

Selber has been with the DA's office for more than 18 years.

She was one of two prosecutors who helped convict demolition contractor Griffin Campbell of involuntary manslaughter in the deadly 2013 wall collapse that crushed a Salvation Army thrift store. Campbell is serving a 15-to-30-year prison term.

In 2009, she prosecuted John "Jordan" Lewis for the slaying of Philadelphia Police Officer Chuck Cassidy. Lewis was sentenced to death.

As head of the state AG's criminal division, Selber will oversee 436 employees, and will participate in efforts to combat Pennsylvania's opioid crisis, a spokesman for the AG's office said.

Additionally, Shapiro's office announced that Jonathan Scott Goldman, a partner at the Blank Rome law firm in Philadelphia, has been appointed Executive Deputy Attorney General in charge of the Civil Division.

A specialist in commercial litigation, Goldman will be responsible 104 attorneys.

In another appointment, Shapiro has tapped Sara Manzano-Diaz to be new head of public protection.

Regional Administrator for the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. General Services Administration, Manzano-Diaz is married to Nelson Diaz, a former Common Pleas judge who last year ran unsuccessfully for Philadelphia mayor.

Finally, Shapiro's office announced that Bill Kelly, the Abington Township police chief, will serve as Senior Agent in Charge of more than 250 investigators for the office.

Shapiro will be sworn in as Attorney General next Tuesday.
