Despite close Clinton ties, Rendell not on guestlist

Gov. Rendell today said that he has not been invited to attend Chelsea Clinton's nuptials this weekend.

Gov. Rendell today said that he has not been invited to attend Chelsea Clinton's nuptials this weekend.

The Governor, who had a long friendship with former President Bill Clinton and also heavily campaigned for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during her 2008 run for president, was asked if he had been invited to the wedding by reporters after a news conference in Bucks County.

He said that Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky "have tried to keep the invitations to people who really know the bride and groom."

Rendell is in good company. President Obama will not be attending the wedding, either.

Rendell said he knew Chelsea "slightly." He accompanied her during a tour of Philadelphia gay bars - a much publicized event - during her mother's presidential run.

He said he knew Mezvinsky's parents - former Congresswoman Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky (D-Pa.) and former Congressman Edward M. Mezvinsky (D-Iowa) - but he has never met Marc.
