Obama in Philly Saturday

President Obama will fire up canvassers at a rally Saturday at Temple University before they fan out to knock on doors, a Democratic official said.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the Student Pavilion at 1901 N. 15th St.

The president did some of his campaigning from the White House this week, reaching out by phone to speak with supporters and do radio interviews.

Tonight, Obama will become the first sitting president to appear on Jon Stewart's The Daily Show on Comedy Central.

Tickets are not required for the Philadelphia canvass kickoff, but RSVPs are requested at http://pa.barackobama.com/PhiladelphiaCanvass.

The event will be the seventh in the series, dubbed "Moving America Forward," that Obama has held around the nation. Some of the cities: Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Madison, Wisc., and Columbus, Ohio. He also hosted a webcast Town Hall from George Washington University. Before election day, he's also scheduled to hold rallies in Chicago, Cleveland and Bridgeport, Conn.

All of the events in deep-blue counties that Obama carried with more than 65 percent of the vote in his 2008 election. Democrats are trying to rally their base voters in hopes of keeping control of Congress, or limiting losses, in what has been a GOP year.

This morning, Vice President Joe Biden was scheduled to appear on behalf of congressional candidate Bryan Lentz at a rally at Sulpizio Gym in Wayne. The event was rescheduled after permission was withdrawn to hold it at Radnor High School.
