Dog bit man, but did dog kill man?

Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine what killed a 21-year-old man found inside a home on the 5300 block of Rising Sun Avenue in North Philadelphia.

Shortly before midnight on Saturday, the man, whose identity was not immediately released by police, was removed from the home by an EMS squad. He was pronounced dead at Albert Einstein Medical Center at 12:42 a.m. Sunday. According to police, he had bite marks on his face, but it was unclear whether the bites had caused his death, or whether they were inflicted after a medical trauma.

At 1:15 a.m. Sunday, about 30 minutes after doctors pronounced the man dead, officers were called to the home for a report of a vicious dog. Police said they removed a pit bull from the address.

Police are awaiting a medical examiner's report on the cause and manner of death to determine when the bites were inflicted.
