Watermelons and debris from an overturned tractor-trailer spilled from an I-95 exit ramp and struck another vehicle near the Walt Whitman Bridge, causing a crash that killed a 61-year-old passenger Saturday afternoon, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The truck carrying watermelons was traveling on the northbound Exit 19 ramp near the bridge when it lost control at 2:30 p.m., hitting a guardrail, police said. The contents of the truck fell from the exit ramp to the southbound lanes and struck a Honda HR-V, causing driver Kevin Huynh, 44, to lose control, police said.

Huynh and passenger Thanh Tam Nguyen, both of Glenolden, had to be cut free from the wreckage by the Philadelphia Fire Department, state police said. Both were taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where Nguyen was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Bronx resident Leytong Peralta, 30,  the driver of the watermelon truck, was uninjured, state police said.
