A man and a woman were killed Tuesday in separate stabbings in Philadelphia.

In the first slaying, a 55-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released, was stabbed multiple times around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at 22nd and Market Streets in Center City, police said.

Police took the victim to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition but later died, officials said.

Investigators are looking for witnesses and are reviewing video from area surveillance cameras to identify the assailant and establish a possible motive.

A little more than 10 hours later, police found a 39-year-old woman who had been stabbed about seven times in her hand and chest in the first floor of a rooming house on the 100 block of Edgewood Street in West Philadelphia, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:05 p.m.

Police did not immediately say why they were called to the house.

A weapon was recovered, police said.

Authorities did not say if they had identified a possible suspect but reported no arrest had been made.
