Former La Salle High basketball star Jarrod Stukes wounded in W. Philly shooting

La Salle College High School basketball standout Jarrod Stukes was wounded late Sunday night when gunfire erupted after a block party in West Philadelphia's Mantua section, according to police.
Stukes, who graduated in May and committed to play basketball at Division II Clarion University of Pennsylvania, was one of four people shot near 39th and Melon Streets.
La Salle athletic director Joe Parisi said Stukes was upgraded from critical to stable condition.
"He's hanging in there," Parisi said in a text message. "Obviously, nothing is for certain, but he has been moved from critical to stable condition, so we are encouraged."
Police Lt. John Walker told 6ABC at least 31 shots were fired from two types of weapons during the burst of violence.
Stukes, a beloved member of the Explorers basketball team, is the younger brother of current La Salle University Explorer Amar Stukes. His eldest brother, Nadir, also played at Engineering and Science (2011) and later at Rosemont College.
On Facebook, their father, Dhaamin Stukes, thanked people for the support their family has received.
La Salle coach Joe Dempsey said Stukes is a "fighter," and that he has been fielding calls and texts from concerned students, former teammates, and other members of the La Salle community.
The shooting remains under investigation and no arrests have been reported.
