MOUNT LAUREL Burlington County officials on Thursday closed the Centerton Road Bridge over the Rancocas Creek after county engineers conducted an inspection of the aging structure.
County spokesman Eric Arpert said further inspection and potential repairs are needed. It was not known when the bridge, more than 100 years old, would reopen.
A reverse 911 call was issued to area residents to inform them of the closing, Arpert said. The bridge connects Mount Laurel to Willingboro and Westampton.
State Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney and other officials held a news conference at the bridge last year to illustrate the need for improvements to the state's infrastructure.
