NJ State Police trooper kills man at a Turnpike rest stop

A New Jersey State Police trooper shot and killed a man at a Turnpike rest stop Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The Attorney General's Office said its shooting response team was investigating the incident, which happened at 2:45 p.m. at the Molly Pitcher Service Area in Cranbury, Middlesex County.

Authorities said the victim was inside a pickup truck when he was shot, and that he was pronounced dead at the scene. They did not identify the victim. Officials declined to offer further details on why the trooper shot him, saying the investigation was ongoing.
