New farm-to-fork restaurant opens in Burlington City this weekend

A new farm-to-fork restaurant will open this weekend in Burlington City, NJ, but already reservations are filled. The anticipated Riverview Restaurant, which replaces the landmark Cafe Gallery, will have a few tables, however, for walk-ins.

The Riverview Restaurant & Bar will open in Burlington City on Friday -- replacing the iconic Café Gallery -- but reservations for this weekend are filled.

Adrian Thomas, a co-owner of the farm-to-fork restaurant along the Delaware River, said he would hold a few tables open for walk-ins.

Anticipation has been high since Café Gallery closed more than three years ago after three decades in business.

Thomas said the new two-story restaurant will be open Thursdays through Sunday for the first few months and then seven days a week.

Among the unusual items on the menu are a Brussels sprouts Caesar (salad) with shredded sprouts, roasted tomato jam, and crunchy pumpernickel for $14 and warm lentil salad with organic lentils, pork stock, egg, mycopolitan mushrooms, and micro collard greens for $16.

The large plates include a "Riverview burger" created with grass-fed beef, Cheddar, bacon, and onions atop an onion poppy brioche bun for $17 (add $3 for an egg on top) and a "sous vide teres major" that features butter-poached lobster with green and white asparagus and roasted fingerling potato for $29.

Ross Scofield, the former chef and a co-owner of Rx the Farmacy and the Bar(n) in West Philly, was hired as the chef.  He learned culinary arts at the Restaurant School in Philadelphia and previously was chef at Birches, a now-closed  restaurant in a historic bank a few blocks from the Riverview Restaurant.

Thomas, who owns the Riverview with his partner, Phillip Stone, said the Riverview underwent renovations that cost nearly $2 million.
