Crews assessing railcar chemical leak in Glouco

A railcar leaking propane in Logan Township prompted two workers to be hospitalized and a couple warehouses to be evacuated.

A railroad tanker car leaking chemicals at a Gloucester County industrial park Thursday morning sent two workers to hospital and prompted the evacuation of some nearby buildings.

The leak at the Pureland Industrial Park in Logan Township was reported around 10 a.m. Thursday.

The tanker was leaking propylene, a flammable byproduct of oil refining and natural gas processing, according to Logan Township police.

Hazmat teams are assessing the leak in an effort to stop and contain it, police said.

Two workers were hospitalized with minor injuries, according to Gloucester County dispatchers.

A couple nearby warehouses were evacuated, dispatchers said. No residents were evacuated.

The Interstate 295 exit ramps to Center Square Road (Exit 10) have been shut down.

Further information about the incident wasn’t immediately available.
