Tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike will increase by 6 percent for cash and E-ZPass customers at 12:01 a.m. Sunday.

The hike, approved by turnpike commissioners in July, is needed to meet the highway's funding and capital improvement needs and generate the $450 million the turnpike is mandated to provide PennDot as supplemental funding, the agency said.

The Turnpike Commission says the most common toll for a passenger vehicle will increase from $1.23 to $1.30 for E-ZPass customers and from $1.95 to $2.10 for cash customers. For Class 5 vehicles — a typical tractor-trailer — the common toll will increase from $10.17 to $10.78 for E-ZPass and from $14.45 to $15.35 for cash.

The toll from Valley Forge to the end of the turnpike in Western Pennsylvania will increase from $27.68 to $29.34 for E-ZPass and from $38.75 to $41.10 cash.

There will be no increase for E-ZPass or Toll-by-Plate customers on Bucks County's Delaware River Bridge westbound cashless tolls.
