The Philadelphia Council of the AFL-CIO endorsed City Controller Alan Butkovitz Thursday in his reelection bid. Butkovitz is being challenged in the Democratic primary by Rebecca Rhynhart, who resigned as Mayor Kenney's budget director in December.

Pat Eiding, president of  labor unions council, called Butkovitz "a tireless advocate for Philadelphians," according to a news release.

"As city controller, Alan Butkovitz has worked hard to save taxpayer's money," Eiding continued. "Since taking office his work has saved Philadelphians over $800 million."

Butkovitz is seeking his fourth term. The primary is May 16.
