New Jersey voters approve $125M for libraries, environmental measure

Both ballot questions got overwhelming approval.

New Jersey voters on Tuesday approved a $125 million bond issue to provide grants to local public libraries for improvements and expanded services.

Municipalities or counties that fund libraries would match the grants. The measure passed by a 3-2 ratio.

Garden State voters also passed a constitutional amendment requiring that the state use money won in lawsuits over environmental contamination to "repair, restore, replace, or preserve the state's natural resources."  Supporters said the amendment would prevent money collected from polluters from being used for other purposes. It was approved by a 2-1 ratio.
