The Hawks need an upset to keep their chances alive for a double-bye in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

Last meeting: E.C. Mathews scored 13 to lead Rhode Island to a 68-49 victory at Hagan Arena last March. The Hawks shot just 38 percent and had their lowest scoring total of the 2016-17 season.

The latest: The Hawks kept their chances alive for a fourth-place finish in the A-10 with a  72-70 win at Richmond on Saturday. Nick Robinson had 20 points and eight rebounds, while Shavar Newkirk (18 points) sank two decisive free throws with 14 seconds remaining. Taylor Funk made four free throws to extend his freshman record to 76. A fourth-place finish would give St. Joe's a double bye in the A-10 tournament quarterfinals. … The 17th-ranked Rams clinch their first outright A-10 regular-season title with a win over Dayton. Matthews had 18 points and Jeff Dotwin scored 20. Rhode Island has won 18 of its last 19 games. … Jared Terrell leads the Rams, who average 78.0 points a game, in scoring at 17.6 ppg.
