Logan Marchi, who started Temple's first seven games at quarterback before suffering a foot injury, announced Tuesday on Twitter that he would be transferring.

The move was not surprising since redshirt junior Frank Nutile took over and played well, leading Temple (7-6) to a 4-2 record and a 28-3 win over Florida International  in last week's Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl. Marchi was unable to win the job back because of Nutile's production.

Marchi, who just completed his redshirt sophomore season, said playing time was a major factor in his decision. "Being able to play somewhere was a big reason," he said Wednesday in a telephone interview.

With two seasons of eligibility, Marchi said he was looking to transfer to a Football Championship Subdivision school, where he would not have to sit out a year in accordance with NCAA transfer rules.

"That would give me the chance to play right away," he said.

Marchi said since he made the announcement, he has heard from several schools. "My phone has been blowing up," he said.

He said he was on course to graduate after the spring semester.

This season, he completed 136 of 245 passes for 1,658 yards with nine touchdowns and eight interceptions. As a redshirt freshman in 2016, he was the backup to Phillip Walker but attempted just six passes.

Temple's other quarterbacks are redshirt freshman Anthony Russo, Todd Centeio, who redshirted this season, and incoming freshmanTrad Beatty, who will enroll in January.

Even though he is looking for more playing time, Marchi said it was a difficult decision to leave.

"It was tough because I spent three years there and met a lot of great people," Marchi said. "I just thought this was the best decision for me."
