ORONO, Maine — Kenny Doak's 52-yard field goal as time expired Saturday lifted the University of Maine to a 13-10 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Villanova at Alfond Stadium on Saturday.

Doak, a sophomore who entered the game with a career-long 38-yard field goal and had a 40-yard attempt blocked earlier in the game, just cleared the crossbar with a kick aided by a slight wind as FCS No. 25 Maine ended a four-game losing streak against the Wildcats, and improved its record to 3-2 overall, 2-0 in CAA play.

Villanova, ranked No. 19, saw its chances for a postseason berth all but end as the Wildcats (3-3) fell to 0-3 in conference play.

Maine gained possession at its 17-yard line after a Villanova punt with 1:39 left. A 10-yard-run by Joe Fitzpatrick and a 20-yard pass from Isaiah Robinson to Jaquan Blair moved the ball into Wildcats' territory.

A 14-yard pass from Robinson to Blair gave Maine the ball at the Villanova 26, and three plays later Maine called timeout with 3 seconds left to set up Doak's game-winner.

Villanova managed just 181 total yards in the game, with sophomore quarterback Jack Schetelich — starting for the injured Zach Bednarczyk (arm) completing 12 of 25 passes for 93 yards with two interceptions and  he was sacked twice.

Villanova trailed 10-3 midway through the third quarter before punter David Gelb pinned Maine inside its 10 following a 63-yard punt and Wildcats' strong safety Julian Williams recovered a fumble by the Black Bears' Earnest Edwards at the 16 on the next play.

Three plays later, Aaron Forbes scored from the 2-yard line for his fourth touchdown in the last three games — to even the game at 10-10 with 2:07 left in the period.

Schetelich drove Villanova 58 yards to the Maine 18 on the game's first possession to set up a 38-yard field goal by Drew Kresge that gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.

Maine countered with a 30-yard field goal by Doak 45 seconds into the second quarter after quarterback Isaiah Robinson drove the Black Bears from their 3 to the Villanova 13.

Maine used two quarterbacks in the absence of injured starter Chris Ferguson (shoulder), with freshman Ryan Walsh working the opening series before being replaced by redshirt Isaiah Robinson.

Maine took the second-half kickoff and drove 75 yards on 14 plays for the game's first touchdown, a 2-yard run by Joe Fitzpatrick with 9:09 left in the third quarter.
